Summer@ Embley Wine
Lush summer vine growth
During the summer we're pruning the tops of the vines to keep the growth in the bud or grapes and training the new vines into the trellis. The vines need constant attention at this time of year when we're not pruning we'll be spraying or feeding.
Underfoot the grass is kept mown short, if it gets too long the temperature amongst the vines will drop, while leaving bare soil will encourage erosion; it's a fine balance to get the best wine.
The vines blossom in July; there is an incredible smell of Patchouli everywhere. Even before any flowers are visible you can detect the scent in the air, from the moment the first small bud opens. You can't see it but you can certainly smell it.
