Charlie tells
you all about our wine and
gives you some wine tips he's learnt.
We have
approx 10000 Seyval vines, a French hybrid variety,
grafted onto a louse resistant root; this louse (phyloxerra)
is fatal for vine roots. This grape produces a superb
white wine, delicious as it is, but balanced enough
for blending and perfectly suited to oak fermentation.
It is also widely used for sparkling wine production.
We however prefer it on it's own.
Well
suited to the Hampshire climate, this variety harvests quite
late and when other grapes may
not be doing so well, Seyval, with the correct management,
can produce a heavy crop of extremely clean berries and
ultimately an excellent fruity and mature tasting wine.
