The
vines become full and the grapes plump during September,
we'll be going through the vines pinning up any sagging
boughs and waiting for the harvest.
Harvesting
happens in late October, but when is the right time
to harvest your grapes? Charlie's your
boy here, the young lad knows the grape like every
farm boy should, he can tell just from the taste whether
you're too early, or too late. If Charlie
is not around then we use a refractometer to spot
the right sugar levels.
Now
the vineyard will be full of teams of pickers. It's
a vital skill, not all the grapes will be picked
at the same time, different areas of the vineyard
are ready at different times and if you pick
grapes that aren't ready you risk spoiling the
wine.
Bins of
grapes are accumulated and trailered off for pressing,
fermenting and ultimately bottling.
